The primary objective of the project is to create an innovative product in the functional nutraceutical sector through

  • The use of antioxidant mixtures extracted from grapes, olive leaves, and other waste products as a source of supplements/nutraceuticals for the prevention of chronic diseases with high mortality such as type 2 diabetes.
  • The innovative way of administration through encapsulation in liposomes, in order to obtain a better delivery in the target tissues and to overcome the effects related to enzymatic degradation and acid metabolization.
  • Technological transferability in the present project is linked to the development of new liposomes /antioxidants, with peculiar biological and pharmacological activities, which may be marketable for pharmacological and/or nutraceutical companies. The INTEGRA project requires a profound multi- and inter-disciplinary approach, combining chemical, biological, pharmacological and medical skills.
